Sana Beach Resort

Mandarmoni was a virgin beach on the Bay of Bengal, where thousands of red crabs crawled looking like scattered petals of the red flower.

It was a challenge to build a resort that would touch the earth lightly and not disturb the delicate micro-ecosystem.

As a rule, a green design that is environmentally conscious is inherently smart, as it is economically prudent and socially beneficial.

A perfect example is our project Sana Beach Resort in Mandarmoni, West Bengal, which is designed with green technology having a high economic return.

It is a humble yet beautiful destination to escape from the urban life built with local materials, by local artisans in perfect harmony with nature which catalyzes the micro economy of the region.

The design was not conceived in our architectural studio.

The conception was made on the very site after interactions with a construction team consisting only of local artisans.

After realizing that they were not conversant with architectural drawings, we decided to explain man-to-man via sketches and onsite clay modes exactly what we visualized.

Once understood, they accomplished it with astonishing speed and grace, while displaying their own creativity.

With amusement, we would discover alterations to the discussed designs that they enthusiastically and proudly pointed out.

We decided to retain their inputs which sprouted from the local knowledge and the experience of generations of working with local materials.
